Salman Khan Hit-and-Run: Supreme Court refuses to cancel actor’s bail

In a big relief for actor Salman Khan in the 2002 hit-and-run case, the Supreme Court on Mondaydismissed a petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to him in the case by the Bombay High Court.

The petition was filed by Sushila Himmatrao Patil, mother of Ravinder Patil, a police constable who was Salman Khan's bodyguard at the time when the 2002 accident took place. Patil died in 2007. In her petition, Sushila prayed to the court that she be made a party in the case and also challenged Salman Khan's bail. The apex court bench, however, declined the plea.

The Bombay High Court on May 8 suspended Salman's 5-year sentence in the 2002 hit-and-run case and granted him bail pending his appeal against conviction. He has been on bail for a long time and his liberty was not curtailed.

Salman was sentenced to five years in jail by a Mumbai sessions court, which found the mega star guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. One person was killed and four other pavement dwellers injured in Bandra in September, 2002.

Aanand L. Rai, who recently struck gold at box office with his film 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns', is all set to collaborate with Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan for his next film.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, both SRK and Aanand have finally agreed on a project and the former will listen to Rai's narration once he wraps up Rohit Shetty's 'Dilwale'.

A source close to the project confirmed the news to the leading daily and revealed, “Yes Aanand has met and discussed a story with Shah Rukh which he liked, immensely. This film will definitely be made, but the paperwork is yet to be completed.“

Probably that is the reason why the film hasn't been announced yet. Reportedly, the film is slated to go on the floors next year, after Shah Rukh finishes Rahul Dholakia's 'Raees' and Maneesh Sharma's 'Fan'. It will be produced under Shah Rukh Khan's banner Red Chillies Entertainment. In fact, the buzz also suggests that SRK will be playing a dwarf in the film.

Interestingly, few months back there were reports that Aanand was going to work with Salman Khan and that the 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' actor was going to play a dwarf in the movie. However, later things didn't seem to have worked out.

Now with SRK doing the film and is rumoured to be playing a dwarf, can it be safe to say that Shah Rukh has stepped into Salman's shoes?!

We shall have to wait to know that!

EXCLUSIVE: 'Hero is Salman Khan's baby' - Nikhil Advani

Nikhil Advani is one busy director currently. The filmmaker has two back-to-back releases in the form of 'Hero' and 'Katti Batti'. lined up for a release in September. Amidst the post production work for his films, the director has squeezed time to talk about his film.

Given that 'Hero is a remake of Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri's 1983 hit, ask him if it was more of responsibility making this film and he reveals, "Today's generation hasn't seen the original 'Hero'. Jackie Shroff is Tiger's father for audience of today. They don't know who is Meenakshi Sheshadri. Nostalgia is the death of every filmmaker.  I haven't changed anything. The dhaaga of the film is exactly the way it was in the 1983's version of Subhash Ghai. I tried changing it arrogantly initially but then I couldn't change. And Salim Khan Sahab asked me why was I looking frustrated and arrogant? I told him because I couldn't change anything in the script. Then he asked me 'Why do you think Subhash Ghai hadn't done what you did?' Later, he asked me to just make the film and not change anything. I followed him and have only logically made it stronger and contemporary. The characters have been shown progressive."

He continues, "When Salman Khan called me and said 'I want you to direct Hero', my first question to him was 'Are you doing it' and he denied. Then I said yes to it. He asked me why did I ask that question, then I told him that I didn't want to start with a notion of a 300 crores film. I was the fourth phone call Salman made. The first was to Subhash Ghai, second to Sooraj Pancholi, third to Athiya and last to me. And trust me 'Hero' is Salman's baby. It is his vision and passion. It is his way of returning to the industry everything, that he has got from it. With 'Hero' the philosophy was to launch a boy and girl the way Salman was launched."

Point noted Nikhil!

'Hero' releases on September 11, 2015.

Raees Vs Sultan: SRK explains in detail why he won't budge from the Eid 2016 date

$

We know that Eid 2016 will see one of the biggest clashes of all times when Shah Rukh Khan's 'Raees' will take on Salman Khan's 'Sultan' in the theatres. While both SRK and Salman have spoken about this clash publicly, making it clear that there is no personal misgiving in the matter, SRK explained in a recent interview with Hindustan Times that the reason neither will budge is because the distributors of both films feel that their respective film is more suited for an Eid release.

SRK said, "There is no issue... Let them also release. It’s very simple: their distribution and production offices feel their film should release on Eid, while my distribution office feels that ours is designed for Eid. So, we both have decided [on the same date], but there’s no clash the way it’s being made out to be."

SRK added, "Films will come and go. But honestly, it’s fortunate that whenever my film has released with another one, we have, by God’s grace, been safe every time. It doesn’t make me pompous when I say that my film has done well. There’s a simple logic — there are 300 films and 52 Fridays (in a year). There are going to be [almost] six films releasing on the same day. Sometimes, it happens to be mine. The idea is to do our best and wish the other person also the very best.”

The superstar further explained, "My production company will never do two things — we are not derogatory about any film (sic), and, we don’t announce the release date of our movies as soon as they are announced. I feel it is the most stupid and redundant exercise producers follow. People say, 'An actor has agreed to do the film, so let’s make a big announcement that it will be coming on Diwali.' I am like, 'First shoot the film.' I have shot for all my three upcoming films, that’s why I am releasing them. I could have announced their release dates much earlier. Raees was planned two years back. But I don’t announce them in advance. I often tell Karan (Johar; director), 'Why are you announcing it so much in advance? Shoot first.' Our company has a simple funda — when we finish 50% of our shoot, only then are we somewhat assured that it will be completed [by a certain date]."

Sonam Kapoor is currently busy shooting for 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' opposite Salman Khan and the Neerja Bhanot biopic.

While the actress hasn't been much successful in terms of box office numbers, many are sure that PRDP will mark Sonam's hat trick in the 100 crore club, the earlier two being 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' and 'Raanjhanaa'.

Ask Sonam about it and she states, "I don't think what numbers my films do. I hope the film does well because it will do good for the producers. I have been working hard ma'am. I am currently doing only two films and both are with Fox Studios. But since PRDP is a Salman Khan film, I am sure it will open to some ridiculous figures.

True that Sonam!

Can't let Salman Khan down: Sooraj Pancholi

$

Emerging actor Sooraj Pancholi says there wasn't any specific pressure on him and co-star Athiya Shetty for "Hero" but that of not letting mentor Salman Khan down.

"Salman sir never put any pressure on us. He never instructed us to work in a specific manner, or to take inspiration from other guys. Obviously there is a pressure because we've got such a big film and he is backing us. We can't let him down and that's a pressure," he said to a query about the enormous expectations from them at a media interaction on Tuesday as part of the film promotion.

Though Sooraj and Athiya are kids of Salman's close friends, Aditya Pancholi and Sunil Shetty respectively, the fathers didn't have a say in their launch. And it was Salman spotting potential in them, the reason why he decided to launch them.

Sooraj said: "I was working with Kabir Khan on 'Ek Tha Tiger' where I met Salman sir. And after shooting for 6-7 months in Turkey, the film was about to get completed. He came in my room at three on the night of my birthday and pulled me into his room and gave me a birthday gift which was 'Hero'."

Explaining how she got the role, Athiya said: "I used to go to the gym in Bandra where I came across Salman sir's sister. And she told him about me and anyway they were looking for an actress opposite Sooraj. He spoke to papa (Sunil) and the next thing I know is I'm on the sets of 'Hero'."

"Hero", a remake of the 1983 film, is being produced by Salman Khan and Subhash Ghai and is directed by Nikhil Advani.

Exclusive: Katrina Kaif opposite Salman Khan in Atul’s next?

$

NULL

Rumours are rife in Bollywood circuit that Katrina Kaif will be cast opposite Salman Khan in his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri’s next which is said to be a love story.

Few months back it was heard that Salman has agreed to do yet another film for Atul once he completes "Sultan" which is likely to be shot between November 2015 and February 2016 in a non-stop schedule in Haryana. Apparently, Salman will start working on his brother-in-law's project once he has finished shooting for "Sultan".

Salman had recently confirmed the news saying that they have locked the script, and he had also clarified that the film will not be a sequel to "Bodyguard" (Salman and Atul's blockbuster of 2011). On his part, Atul had said that the film will be an action-packed love story.

Not just the female lead, but there were already these speculations of Kabir Khan, who has given two hits with Salman – "Ek Tha Tiger" and recently "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", will be wielding the baton for Atul's film.

However, Kabir doesn’t want to confirm at this point of time. “I have just had two releases. I will take some time to start the next. I would like to take at least a month break. Also so far nothing is confirmed. It all depends upon the script to collaborate on this project. I have to yet discuss the idea and script logistics,” said Kabir. However, he didn't deny doing it. Atul was not available for comments.

If Katrina gets finalised then she and Salman will be paired together for the fifth time. The ex-lovers were last seen together in "Ek Tha Tiger" which was released in 2012.

Salman's next release is "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" which will  hit theatres on Diwali this year. After which he will begin shooting for Yashraj's "Sultan", for which the lead actress hasn't been finalised yet.

I don't think it is true: Salman when asked about Madhuri being paid more in HAHK

Anupam Kher made a startling revelation recently when he tweeted that Madhuri Dixit was paid more than Salman Khan in 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun'. However, when some reporters quizzed Salman about this at a recent presscon, the actor seemed to be taken by surprise. Salman said, "I am hearing this news for the first time from you. I don't think that it is true. I hope it is true. I hope that actresses......It is all depends on that what people want to see. You know, the busier you get, the more people want to see you. That is how your price increases. If you can pull off a solo hero or a solo heroine film on your own and the producer gets that money, the exhibitors and distributors get that money, so you producer does not have a problem sharing that money with you. So you can't demand, you need to command that."

Well said, don't you think?

Salman Khan has ruled as the Bollywood superstar for some time now. His last release Bajrangi Bhaijaan made a splendid business at the box office. All eyes are now on his next release Prem Ratan Dhan Payo opposite Sonam Kapoor. Sonam did mention that PRDP will have a ridiculous opening figure due to Salman's stardom.

Sooraj, Athiya part of 'Hero' for talent, not 'star kids' tag: Salman

Superstar Salman Khan says he is not launching Suniel Shetty's daughter Athiya and Aditya Pancholi's son Sooraj with his forthcoming production venture "Hero" because they are "star kids", but due to their talent and passion for acting.

"People are saying that we have launched them (Athiya and Sooraj) because they are star kids. But it is not like that. I have many friends, who have children, but I have not launched them. And a lot of parents come and ask me to launch their children.

"So, we are not launching them because they are Aditya and Suniel’s kids. I have seen Athiya and Sooraj’s work and they are brilliant and good in what they do. They are very sorted," Salman said during a promotional visit to the Millennium City with the lead pair on Saturday.

The 49-year-old actor, who is going all out to promote the film, went on to note that "if you see the film trailer or see them talking during an interview, you feel that they mean what they are saying".

Taking a dig at himself, Salman quipped: "They are sensible unlike their producer, who at time goes off."

However, it was not a cakewalk for Athiya and Sooraj to grab their debut film as Salman puts "Halwa nahi tha".

"They had to go under several tests and auditions from action to dancing to acting. After all that they were finalised," said the "Kick" star.

The close bond shared between the three was quite evident at the press conference as the trio joked and shared their experience of working together. Salman introduced them to the media as "Athiya ma'am" and "Sooraj baba".

The debutants have often expressed their gratitude towards Salman for guiding them in public. And Salman also hopes the debutants make a strong foothold in the industry.

"I think both of them should do really well and grow bigger and get better with each film and every year," said Salman, who looked casual in a black T-shirt and jeans.

Directed by Nikhil Advani, "Hero" is a remake of Subhash Ghai’s 1983 film of the same name and will hit the screens on September 11.

Salman also shared trivia related to the film, by saying that he had suggested Ghai to remake "Hero" with him as lead when the director had gone to the actor to narrate "Yuvvraaj".

"Subhash came to me with a film and narrated it to me. I said 'sir, don’t do this movie with me, but let’s do 'Hero, which he had made a long time ago. I even suggested some changes and said 'we can make a modern movie'. He said 'no' and we did 'Yuvvraaj."

"But after sometime, I saw Sooraj. He was working with me on 'Ek Tha Tiger' and I thought I should cast him before Aditya Chopra sees him,”"Salman quipped, adding: "I thought that 'Hero' was good enough for me to do and 'Hero' is good enough for Sooraj baba to do".

Can't sing to save my life, but for fun: Salman Khan

After making his fans dance on his party track "Hangover" and making his fans go gooey with his latest romantic song "Main tera hero", superstar Salman Khan says he sings merely for fun.

"I’m singing for fun and I can’t sing to save my life. If you ask me to sing the song right now, I will not be able to do that. It doesn't sound the same, but when I’m in studio, when they (the composers) sing every line in front of me, I can mimic that and I can sing it,” Salman said here on Saturday.

“But in that case also if you ask me to go back to the line after 10 minutes, I will not be able to sing it. I need somebody to sing that line for me then I can sing it -- that is the way I sing,” he added.

The 49-year-old, who was here to promote his production venture “Hero” along with its lead pair Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty, showcased his witty side during a press meet.

The “Kick” star left everyone guessing when he said that “I concentrate on that thing... and get in the feel of the romantic song automatically”.

“I concentrate on ‘sur’... they may go off sync, but technicians manage and take care of it. But the feeling is important and then the song is pretty okay,” said the actor, who looked casual in a jeans and black t-shirt.

Salman also noted that it was the urge to relate with the song, character and film that made him turn into a singer.

"Audience get to know that the song is done by some other singer in a film. I thought I might as well have my own song and so there is some association with that,” he said.

Salman Khan and Aamir Khan will be seen playing the role of a wrestler in upcoming films ‘Sultan’ and ‘Dangal’. Both the actors have been prepping up hard for their respective roles. However, talks about similarities are on ever since the actors signed the films.

Sources informed DNA that Aamir has been concerned about this similarity in their roles as well. Sources said, “Aamir is concerned about the similarities between the two films. He has worked really hard for Dangal, even putting on over 30 kgs risking his health in the bargain.” As Sultan is set to release before Dangal, Salman assures saying that there are no similarities in the both the films. He told the daily, “Aamir doesn’t need to worry at all. Dangal has a beautiful script. Aamir plays a father in the film. In Sultan, I don’t have any children. I just have to battle my opponents in the ring. There is no negative force in Sultan, there’s just me and a love story that takes the story forward.”

‘Sultan’ director Ali Abbas Zafar also commented on this and told DNA, “Dangal and Sultan are two very different films. Theirs is a biopic. Ours isn’t. Sultan is about this fictional character of the same name, in a very real, rural set-up.”
