Karan Johar's 'Shuddhi' directed by Karan Malhotra is perhaps the most 'starry' film so far given that there have been so many stars hopping in and out of the movie. July 2013: Hrithik confirmed, Aishwarya speculated
Hrithik Roshan was the first male lead to have been confirmed for Shuddhi. However, the female lead was not yet finalized. During the time, there were strong rumours suggesting that Aishwarya could be starring in the movie opposite Hrithik.
July 2013: Kareena confirmed opposite Hrithik
Soon after the Aishwarya speculations began, Karan Malhotra took to Twitter to announce that Kareena Kapoor Khan will star opposite Hrithik in Shuddhi. Karan Malhotra had said, "Yes, finally we have confirmed Kareena for the role. I feel she is a stunning looking girl and she suites the character best. I am sure she will do justice to the film. I am not allowed to talk much about my film, but all I can assure you is Kareena and Hrithik will be seen in a never before role in 'Shuddhi'. I know it's the most cliche line ever, but I can assure you on that."
Feb 2014: Hrithik and Kareena opt out
Hrithik and Kareena opted out of the movie. They made announcements about this. Hrithik had said, "Karan malhotra and I have decided to unite in the most ambitious way post shuddhi. For now i cannot allow a vision like shuddhi to stagnate any further. I had the finest experience an actor can have working with karan M in agneepath and I'm sure both my dear karans are going to go beyond with this one! Shuddhi remains a part of me in spirit & am sure it will be a landmark in our cinema. I wish them all the best!".
At a 2014 Auto Expo, Kareena mentioned in an interview to Times Now that Shuddhi has been "shelved", thus announcing her ouster from the project.
March 2014: Ranveer and Deepika approached
Rumour had it that B-town's 'it' couple - Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh may play the lead in the movie. We know for sure that Ranveer was trying to choose between Shuddhi and Bajirao Mastani at the time. We all know what he chose. As for Deepika, she denied the news.
July 2014: Salman Khan finalized
"I am doing Karan Johar's movie," Salman had said to everyone's surprise. When asked which movie, he said, "Shuddhi." Karan Johar also confirmed this news. Though everyone were hoping to see Deepika opposite Salman was the first time, there were no confirmations on that front.
May 2015: Salman announces Varun and Alia as the leads!
